Preston Cricket Club Academy

Preston Cricket Club is a member of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association (VSDCA) and has been since 1922, although the club can trace its history back to its formation in the 1860’s, during which time it was a member of the Victorian Junior Cricket Association.

The VSDCA is a turf cricket competition based in the Melbourne Metropolitan area, and comprises 28 clubs, each fielding 4 teams across 4 grades, one team in each grade and all matches played on turf wickets.

The VSDCA is acknowledged as the second most senior competition in the State of Victoria, and provides the best pathway for young aspiring players into the most senior level of cricket, in the Premier competition of which there are some 20 clubs based around the Melbourne Metropolitan area.

Preston Cricket Club has its home ground at Preston City Oval where the first and second XI teams play their home matches, with the third and fourth XI teams playing their home matches at Crispe Park, Gloucester Street, Reservoir.

In addition to the 4 senior teams the VSDCA also conducts an annual U15 team competition, known as the J G Craig Shield competition comprising 6 matches, plus Finals, which is played annually in January of each season with home matches played on the senior teams’ home grounds .

As with many senior turf cricket clubs, Preston C C uses its excellent facilities to ensure that it provides personal coaching and support to its members, and encourages them to move on to a higher level of cricket if they aspire to reach that level.

The Club, the Committee and Members are very aware of the role the club can play in the wider community in providing leadership for the benefit of younger people who are desirous of improving their knowledge and skills in Cricket.

In recognition of this the club has in recent years set out to become a leader in the field of Junior development in Cricket, with coaching programs being extended to both boys and girls who wish to further develop and enhance their skills and love for the game.

The program of extending coaching outside the club to interested boys and girls is primarily the initiation and work of the current Club Coach, Alex Lewis, and President Stephen Wilson, and this was commenced with the formation of a Junior Development Program under the title of:
